After months of cold weather, the first signs of summer have started to emerge. It is important to balance enjoying your summer without reversing all of your hard work. These 7 tips will help you to maintain your lifestyle goals while mixing in some summer fun.

Follow our 7 tips to help you stay on track this summer.

#1: Do your homework

Prepare your plan before you leave for vacation. Most hotel websites will list their fitness center under the Amenities section. This is the easiest way to ensure that you will have a place to workout. Hotels typically provide basic cardio equipment and some weights which should be plenty to get a quick and effective workout.

 

Not staying in a hotel?

Call local hotels to ask if they allow non-guest to workout for a fee. Also, many local gyms will offer day passes for free or a small fee. Research local bootcamps, running groups, and public yoga sessions offered by local tourism organizations or trainers.

#2: Be Creative.

A traditional gym workout isn’t in the cards?  Plan a “no gym, no excuses” circuit workout in advance. Write it down to pack in your suitcase or save it on your phone. Inexpensive and portable resistance bands also make it easy to get active without any other equipment. If you are a runner, plan your route in advance and let your travel companion know your route, as well.

#3: Turn Work into Play.

Getting active on vacation doesn’t need to be a chore. You can combine your workout into your vacation. Trade in a day of laying on the beach to go paddleboarding, kayaking or jog down the beach to catch the sunrise. Research local hiking trails to take in the new scenery. Instead of fighting for parking in crowded vacation hotspots, rent a bike to get around. It’s cheaper than a car rental and parking tickets.

#4: Pencil it in.

Before you go, make sure you decide when you will be getting in your workouts. It’s easy to push a workout off until later or the next day when you are off your normal routine. Set a time that works for you and make sure that you stick to it. Try to avoid planning times in the middle of the day when you are more likely to be distracted by other activities. Communicate your plan to the rest of your travel party to avoid other planned activities during those times.

#5: Make a List.

Don’t get caught grabbing something convenient and likely unhealthy while on the go. Make a grocery list for meals and snacks that are healthy and boost your energy. It is helpful to research local restaurants that offer healthy options and make reservations in advance to avoid long waits.

#6: Get Real.

Planning an hour-long workout and strict diet on vacation isn’t realistic for most people. Make sure that your plans are realistic and attainable. If you make sure to plan a quality, high-intensity routine, you can get your workout completed in 30 minutes and get back enjoying the rest of your vacation.
